The installation of RetroFoam insulation is a breeze in any type of masonry or frame construction.

Typically, we install the injection foam in just one day. To minimize any inconvenience to you, RetroFoam can be installed from the outside or the inside, depending on your preference. Most homeowners prefer the outside as it is less intrusive.

Our trained installers work with customers to determine the best approach. The added benefit of installing from the outside is there is no tearing out of walls, minimal moving of furniture, or interior clean up.

When the installers arrive, they remove a row of siding all around the home. A hole is then drilled into each stud cavity, and the foam is injected. Lastly, the crew will plug the holes and replace the siding.

RetroFoam insulation has the consistency of shaving foam when it is injected into existing walls. This consistency allows the foam to fill up the cavity while flowing around obstacles like pipes and wiring.

The initial water content of the foam is about 4 percent by volume, which is too low to affect a building’s structure. The partially open-cell nature of the foam means the insulation dries out quickly. Once dry, RetroFoam resists re-absorption of water. Mold can occur whenever wetness gets trapped inside a wall. Usually, the foam dries out before mold can grow.

A common misconception with brick construction is that the gap between the wood stud and brick surface is there for ventilation. This is partially correct, however, the primary purpose of this gap is to keep moisture traveling through the brick, which is porous, from touching the wood and sheathing. If the wood is in contact with brick it will take up moisture which causes the wood to rot. RetroFoam is breathable but also repels water. The foam fills the whole cavity space providing a suitable thermal barrier, without transferring moisture to the wood.

There is very little disruption to the household during the RetroFoam installation process. Installation typically takes one to two days to complete.

No. RetroFoam has a Class One Fire Rating which means it is non-combustible. Even in intense heat, RetroFoam insulation will not burn, or melt, however it will char, lose weight, and disintegrate.

No. Unlike some plastics, RetroFoam insulation will not react with plastic coated cabling or wiring.

No. When RetroFoam is exposed to water it is hydrophobic – meaning it sheds water rather than retains it. Even when immersed in water, RetroFoam absorbs only a small amount which quickly evaporates when it is removed from the water. As with most insulation materials, RetroFoam will become water-logged when exposed to water over a long period of time.

To a small degree. Some initial shrinkage is normal, but research shows that RetroFoam maintains its physical and insulation properties. In fact, 15 and 20-year-old foam has been found equivalent in insulation performance to new foam. Often the void space from shrinkage is less than what can be achieved when installing fiberglass batt insulation.
